Common Abortion FAQs
Did You Know?
- Almost 1 in 4 pregnancies end in miscarriage, so a positive test doesn’t always mean you’ll need an abortion. The only way to know if your pregnancy is developing is with an ultrasound. We offer free ultrasounds to check for viability.
- The FDA only approves the abortion pill for pregnancies up to 10 weeks. That’s why it’s important to get an ultrasound to know how far along you are.
- Using your last period to guess the date can be inaccurate and might lead to an incomplete abortion. A viability ultrasound done by trained professionals is the best way to know how far along you really are.
-
Many women who had abortions felt some pressure, either a little or a lot. You have the legal right to choose what happens in your pregnancy. No partner, boyfriend, parent, or anyone else can legally force, threaten, or pressure you into a medical or surgical abortion.
If you think someone is trying to push you into it, or you don’t feel supported in parenting or adoption, talk to someone at our clinic. We can help and explain your legal rights.
This is your body and your choice. No one can make the decision for you.
If you’re being pressured into an abortion, you have options. You can talk with a trained client advocate to go over your rights. If you’re in danger or feel unsafe, call 911 right away.

If you’re thinking about abortion, your first step is a pre-abortion screening visit to get an ultrasound.
Before you schedule an abortion, an ultrasound can show:
If your pregnancy is still developing. This helps figure out what kind of abortion you might qualify for. The method and cost can depend on how far along you are and your health history.
If your pregnancy is viable. The only way to know for sure that it’s progressing is through an ultrasound. Up to 1 in 4 pregnancies end on their own. Some women don’t know they’ve miscarried until it’s seen on the scan. If that happens, you’ll need follow-up care from a doctor.
-
How much an abortion costs depends on the type of procedure and whether the abortion pill is still an option for you. It can cost anywhere from a few hundred to a few thousand dollars.
Before you make any decisions, it’s important to know how far along you are. You can find that out with an ultrasound at Hope Clinic for Women. We don’t perform or refer for abortions, but we do offer free ultrasounds.
